FAU Men's Soccer Prepares for UMKC

Sept. 3, 2008

Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team recently competed in the Coastal Carolina Tournament in Conway, South Carolina on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31.

In the first match of the season, FAU played a talented Coastal Carolina squad. After allowing a goal in the first minute of the game, the Owl defense regrouped to hold Coastal Carolina University to 10 shots in the match and only three in the second half. However, FAU was not able to capitalize on their 11 shots in the net and fell to the Chanticleers 1-0.

The second match of the season featured FAU and Niagara University, who claimed a 1-0 season record. FAU held Niagara scoreless until the 65th minute, when the Purple Eagles finally broke the defense for a score. Although FAU out shot their opponent 23-10, the sole goal by Niagara decided the defensive battle. FAU fell by a score of 1-0 and dropped to 0-2 on the season. Freshman forward Darnell King and junior defender Trey McEntee were named to the all-tournament team.

After two hard-fought matches, FAU looks forward to a match against the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Friday, September 5 at 7 p.m. at FAU Field, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The Kangaroos are 0-1-1, most recently losing to Eastern Illinois 3-2 and tying the University of Illinois-Chicago 2-2.

The match is one of four home matches that the Owls play this year. All youth wearing soccer league jerseys will be admitted for $1, while the first 30 FAU students with an Owl Card will receive a giveaway.

To purchase tickets, visit the FAU Ticket Office at the Tom Oxley Center, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 1-866-FAU-Owls.
