Feb. 5, 2003 Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer coach Kos Donev announced its 2003 recruiting class Wednesday evening. This year's class boasts four athletes from the state of Florida. "We are very excited with the recruits we have this year mainly because these are players that can come in and immediately compete for playing time and make our team more competitive," said Donev. "These guys will be able to compete for the starting eleven and be able to fill in some gaps that we have been trying to fill over the last season." Jani Galik, originally from Prerov, Czech Republic, is a 6'-1" midfielder from Riverview high school in Sarasota, FL. Galik was a four year starter and the team's MVP his sophomore year in high school, while also earning First Team All-County honors in 2001. Walter L. Yoder III is a 5'-7" midfield/forward from Plantation FL. Yoder played for American Heritage and helped guide his team to its first state championship game last season. Yoder has also participated in the Olympic Development Program since 1998 and the Adidas ESP program. Matthew Baum is a 6'-2" midfield/forward from Ft. Myers, FL. Baum played for Cypress Lake High School and amassed 61 goals and 85 assists through his senior year. Baum received All-Conference and All-State honors from 2000-2002. Cory Stump will join the team as a junior from Hillsborough Community College.
One of the more established sports at the University, men's soccer played in the conference tournament four of the last five years and advanced to the finals twice.
