De Mata, Helm lead Owls Past Dolphins in Round One

Nov. 10, 2005

Box Score

MACON, GA -- Thanks to a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Jacksonville, the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team will have their shot at revenge.

With the victory, the Owls move on to the Atlantic Sun Championship semifinals and will face regular-season champion Campbell. The Camels and Owls hooked up in a battle for the conference crown Nov. 5, with CU scoring two very late goals to dash FAU's title hopes in a 3-2 Campbell victory.

To earn their second shot at the Camels in less than a week, the Owls had to come back from an early 1-0 deficit to Jacksonville. Brian Blackburn beat keeper Anders Granstad off a pass from Akeem Priestley, but three minutes before half-time, Andrew Helm fired a shot past JU's keeper Gerrit deBoer to knot the score at one.

Leonardo De Mata would put the Owls in front for good when he beat the keeper to give FAU the final margin of 2-1.

FAU's rematch with CU is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m., on Bear Field in Macon, GA.
