Men's Soccer Falls to Georgia St. 2-1

Oct. 20, 2002

Final Stats

Atlanta, GA- - The men's soccer team at Florida Atlantic University wrapped up a two game road trip Sunday at Georgia State. Despite putting six shots on goal and out shooting the Panthers 16-7 the Owls fell by the score of 2-1.

The Panthers (5-6-1, 2-1-1 A-Sun) jumped on the scoreboard first when Brendon Minors sliced into the Owls boxed and dished off to Stephen Adams. Adams finished the play by beating the keeper to the right side of the net.

However, just a minute after the opening goal, GSU's Bryce Boggs was ejected for receiving his second yellow card of the match. The man advantage allowed FAU to dictate play for most of the remaining time. The Owls out shot GSU 9-2 in the second half.

FAU thought it had the game tied midway into the second half. In the 67th minute it appeared Bjorn Masson had beaten the GSU goal keeper on a restart as the ball passed into the right corner of the goal. Only the goal was called back because the official had not yet ruled the ball in play.

Five minutes later Ran Poliker did find pay-dirt by blasting a shot from 20 yards out. Poliker's shot deflected off two Panther defenders and squeezed into the goal tying the game at 1-1. For Poliker it was his fifth goal of the season and his second of the weekend.

Momentum did not remain on the Owls side for long though. In the 80th minute Poliker was ejected after receiving a red card. On the ensuing free kick the Panther's Adams sent a ball across the box that was headed into the goal by Jamie Hargather.

With the loss FAU falls to 5-7-2 and 2-4-1 in league play. The Owls will take on Hartwick this Friday at FAU field.
