Men's soccer team drops third straight, 2-1 in overtime to Howard University

Boca Raton, FL - ,Florida Atlantic men's soccer team drops third straight game, 2-1 in overtime to Howard University.

Florida Atlantic opened the scoring at 14:47 of the first half on a goal by junior Emiliano Aranes. Junior Preben Nilsen took a ball down the left flank and served a ball to Aranes who headed the ball past Howard goalkeeper Nigel Burgess. The goal was Aranes team leading fifth of the season.

Both team had numerous scoring opportunities throughout the match but could not convert. The score remained FAU 1, Howard 0 until the 89th minute when Howard University scored to tie the game and send it into overtime. Howard's Dave Mitchell took a pass from Joseph Lewis and beat FAU goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad with 1:17 left to play.

In overtime, Howard University needed just 6:37 to score the winner. Jelani Scott received a ball from Kwesi Graham at the top of the penalty box, turned and was able to push a ball under Kolstad for the game winner.

With the loss, FAU drops to 4-9 on the season. Howard University improves too 3-6 overall. FAU is home again on Sunday, October 21, at noon when they play Philadelphia University.
