Kluge Double Gives Men's Soccer 2-1 Victory Over Campbell

Oct. 14, 2004

Box Score

BOCA RATON, FL - Two first-half goals from Rustin Kluge gave the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team a 2-1 Atlantic Sun Conference victory over Campbell on Thursday evening.

"On the first goal, the ball just came to my feet and I hit it hard. The second goal was all Kristoffer (Aarskog)," said Kluge after the victory. "I'll take any win, but we can play better."

Kluge opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Luka Lau's initial shot was blocked and the ball fell kindly to Kluge who had time to compose himself before firing a hard shot high into the Campbell net from 16 yards out.

The Camels (3-7-1, 2-3) hit back less than a minute later thanks to some sloppy defending by the Owls (6-2, 2-1).

FAU failed to clear its own end and K.K. Lima's superb through-ball found Jason Kirk streaking into the box. Kirk finished calmly past Anders Granstad as Owl defenders stood looking at each other.

In the 26th minute, Kluge found the net for a second time thanks to a fine flowing move by the Owls.

A sublime ball from Josh Garbee sent Aarskog flying down the left wing. The reigning A-Sun Player-of-the-Year turned his marker inside-out and could have finished himself from eight yards. Instead, Aarskog slid a pass across the six-yard box to Kluge, who finished with ease.

A dour second half featured only one shot on goal from both teams as the Owls sat on their lead and held on for the victory. Aarskog should have scored with less than 15 seconds left, but his shot flashed across the front of the Campbell goal and wide.

NOTES: Sophomore Ryan Kinsley and freshman Diego Monsalve both sat out because of injury...freshman Franz Chevannes made a brief second-half appearance, only the second time this year he has seen action...senior Bjorn Totland sported a new braided haircut.
