FAU Claims Conference Lead in 2-1 Win Over Longwood

Oct. 13, 2007

Box Score

FARMVILLE, VA - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team now stands alone atop the Atlantic Soccer Conference, after Saturday night's come-from-behind 2-1 win against Longwood University.

The Owls faced an early 1-0 deficit when the Lancers scored in the 11th minute of the match, as Brian Germain tallied his first goal of the season.

Longwood (3-6-2, 1-1-0 ASC) carried the advantage into the game's 65th minute, until Trey McEntee found Igor Santos with a crossing pass. The junior midfielder launched a header past goalkeeper Brandt Youmans for his third goal of the season, and first since a two-goal performance against NJIT earned him ASC Player of the Week honors in September.

With just over six minutes remaining in regulation, junior forward Shire Standnes rifled in a 20-foot blast for his team-leading fourth goal of the 2007 campaign. The unassisted marker proved to be the game-winner, breaking a four-game winless streak for the Owls.

FAU outshot Longwood by a 10-7 margin on the night, while the Lancers were whistled for seven more fouls (15-8).

Florida Atlantic (5-6-1, 2-0-0 ASC) continues on to Charlottesville, where they'll face ACC power University of Virginia in a Tuesday match-up starting at 7 p.m.
