Oct. 7, 2001

BOCA RATON, FL -

Florida Atlantic University was defeated by Mercer University, 2-1 in double-overtime, Sunday night in Boca Raton. The loss was the first by FAU in Atlantic Sun Conference play as the Owls entered the match as the lone undefeated team in the A-Sun. With the loss, FAU drops to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the A-Sun.

The match was scoreless for the first 43 minutes before Mercer's Max Rooke connected on a one-on-one with FAU goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad with 1:55 left in the half. Mercer made that lead stand for more than 35 minutes before FAU tied the match with 11:33 remaining in regulation on a goal by Kristjan Masson. Frans Roenning assisted on the play.

Both teams went scoreless the rest of the second half and through the first overtime period. However, 5:42 into the second overtime, Mercer won the match on a Ramiro Canovas goal. With the win, Mercer improves to 6-4 overall (4-2 A-Sun).
