FAU Falls to Florida Gulf Coast, 3-0
Oct. 4, 2007
BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team continued to endure a run of hard luck, dropping their third straight contest in a 3-0 final against Florida Gulf Coast University Thursday night at FAU Field. FGCU (5-4-1) established an early 1-0 lead and never looked back. Trent Anderson scored in the game's fifth minute on a scramble in front of the net, as the rebound from an initial shot by Matt O'Shaughnessy was deflected by teammate Ben Foerstner to set up the goal. The score would hold until halftime, as the Eagles outshot the Owls 5-3 in the first half. FAU struggled to initiate offense throughout the second half and was unable to convert on a nice crossing pass by newcomer Jose Guerra, who made his debut as an Owl. Anthony Forde added his third and fourth goals of the year for FGCU less than two minutes apart to sew up the game in the 88th and 90th minutes, respectively. Shots on goal also favored the Eagles, 9-4 on the night.
Florida Atlantic (4-6-0) faces another cross-state rival next Thursday at 7 p.m. South Florida travels to FAU Field in the final match of a three-game home stand. Real-time updates are available online by logging onto GameTracker at fausports.com.
