Win Streak Ends at Three as FAU falls to Manhattan, 4-2

Sept. 23, 2007

Stats

RIVERDALE, NY - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team wrapped up a 1-1 road trip with a 4-2 defeat against Manhattan College at Gaelic Field Sunday morning.

Junior forward Shire Standnes logged his third goal of the season in the 53rd minute to even the score at one, answering an early goal by the Jaspers' John Dellipriscoli just five minutes into the contest. Standnes led the Owls with three shots and two shots-on-goal.

Liam Ogle scored his second goal of the year on a penalty kick at 73:16 to cap the scoring for FAU. It was the team's first penalty kick of 2007.

The junior midfielder's marker was the only interruption in a trifecta of Manhattan goals over a 15-minute second-half span. Fernando Londono, Adam Kiley and Tony Safran contributed goals between the 59th and 74th minutes to provide the margin of victory for the Jaspers.

Goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre saw his scoreless goals-against streak end just shy of 300 minutes, allowing four goals and making four saves against a total of eight shots-on-goal. The sophomore wrapped up a stellar week overall, earning Atlantic Soccer Conference Player of the Week and FAU Classic Most Valuable Player honors on the strength of three consecutive shutouts (best in ASC).

After just five combined shots between the two clubs through the first half, a flurry of shots (15) and goals (5) followed in the second - a pace that ultimately favored host Manhattan (2-5-0).

Florida Atlantic (4-4-0) returns home for a three-game stand starting next Sunday, as they face the Thundering Herd of Marshall at 1 p.m. Real-time updates are available online by logging onto GameTracker at fausports.com.
