BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team will open its 2008-09 season on Friday, October 3 at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate Classic in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Orlando's Mission Inn Intercollegiate Classic kicks off FAU's four-event Fall schedule.

The Mission Inn Resort - El Campeon Golf Course, a 7,003-yard track, will play at par 72 for the 17-team field. All schools are scheduled to play 18 holes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"We just finished finalizing the team and we are very young," says FAU head coach Angelo Sands. "The first objective for our guys is grades. A 3.0 GPA is the goal we have set. Secondly is golf. This weekend, when you are playing 16 different teams the best thing you can do is to control your own game. We are looking forward to the challenge."

In the opening round on Friday, Florida Atlantic will be paired with Johnson and Wales University and Bethune-Cookman University. Some of the other participating schools include Western Kentucky University, Stetson University, Villanova University and Boston College.
