Men's Golf Dominates Field

DELAND, FL - Florida Atlantic University set a team Division I record with a resounding victory at the Stetson Intercollegiate in DeLand, FL. The Owls shot a seven-under par 281 in Tuesday's final round and won the tournament by 16 strokes. FAU's Nicolai Syvertsen took medalist honors with an 11-under 205 for the 54-hole competition at the 6,328-yard, par-72 Southridge Golf Club.. In all, FAU finished 23 strokes under par at 841. It's the farthest below par the Owls have finished since moving to Division I nine years ago. Syvertsen, meanwhile, won his first tournament as an Owl, defeating South Carolina State's Michael Milner by two strokes. FAU placed two other players in the top-10. Matt Anderson went two-under on Tuesday to finish at five-under for the tournament and tied for fifth-place. Joel Gibbons fired a one-under 71 Tuesday to finish four-under and tied for seventh. Brandon Smith finished tied for 11th with an even-par 216.
South Carolina State finished second at 857 while Bethune-Cookman was third at 861. Other Atlantic Sun Schools in the nine-team field included Jacksonville (867), Stetson (869), and Gardner-Webb (886). The tournament concludes an impressive fall season for the Owls as they finished among the top-three in three of their four tournaments. Florida Atlantic begins spring play February 3.
