Nov. 11, 2001

DELAND, FL - Three players shot below par as Florida Atlantic University continued its strong fall play Sunday with a 286 in the first round of the Stetson Intercollegiate in DeLand, FL. The Owls are in third place, one stroke behind Stetson and 13 strokes behind leader Rollins College. Michael Bailey led FAU with a three-under par 69 at the par-72, 6,328-yard Southridge Golf Club and is tied for fourth overall.

Scott Kennedy shot a 70 to tie for seventh while Matt Anderson finished a stroke back at 71 and is tied for ninth. Paul Rifenberg shot a 76 while Josh Kaplan finished with an 80.

Round two will take place Monday with all teams teeing off at 9:30am before the 54-hole competition concludes with Tuesday's final round.

Florida Atlantic is looking to finish among the top-three in its third consecutive tournament for the first time in over five seasons. The Owls finished third at last week's Charleston Southern University Fall Invitational after falling in a playoff two weeks ago at the Coca Cola Intercollegiate.
