Men's Golf Starts Strong

DELAND, FL - Florida Atlantic University shot a 288 in Sunday's first round of the Stetson Intercollegiate in DeLand, FL. With the effort, the Owls are tied for second-place with Gardner-Webb University and are just one stroke behind host Stetson. FAU's Matt Anderson is in a three-way tie for first-place with a three-under par 69 while two other Owls are among the tournament's top-20.

Anderson fired a 35 on the front while posting a 34 on the back of the 6,328-yard, par-72 Southridge Golf Club. FAU's Nicolai Syvertsen is tied for 12th with a 72. Brandon Smith posted a 73 to tie for 17th while Joel Gibbons finished Sunday with a 74.

FAU's 288 is its second-best round of the season while Anderson's 69 marks the second time the senior has posted a score below 70.

The 54-hole competition, which marks the end of FAU's fall schedule, continues Monday and concludes Tuesday with 18 holes each day.
