April 18, 2003

Complete Results

Daytona Beach, FL. - The men's golf team of Florida Atlantic University recorded its lowest three-round total ever in an Atlantic Sun Championship and tied its best finish ever by finishing sixth overall with a three round total of 889 at Indigo Lakes Golf Club. Joel Gibbons had the second best finish ever for an FAU golfer and the best since 2000 by tying for eighth place overall and Mike Cleary finished in a tie for 19th place as the two became only the second duo to finish in the top-20 of a conference championship in program history.

Gibbons, a sophomore from Ocala, FL, shot his second consecutive round under par and finished the three-round tournament with a score of one-under par 215. Cleary, playing in only his second tournament of the year for the Owls, finished the final round with a score of 76. Two-time A-Sun Golfer-of-the-Week Matt Anderson shot a final round of 79 while Nicolai Syvertsen and Scott Kennedy fired rounds of 78 and 75 on the par 72, 6908-yard course.

FAU shot its highest round of the tournament, 300, to finish 40-strokes behind champion Jacksonville State University. Georgia State University (854), the University of Central Florida (861), Campbell University (875) and Jacksonville University (882) round out the top five. The last time FAU finished in sixth place was in 2000 when the conference only comprised of 10 schools.

JSU receives the A-Sun's automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals.
