Day One at the Inaugural FAU Spring Break Championship Golf Tourament Complete
March 27, 2009 BOCA RATON, FL- Teams battled windy conditions during the first round of the inaugural FAU Spring Break Championship held at Gleneagles Country Club (6,722 Yards/PAR 71) in Delray Beach. The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team (299) is in 12th place after the first of three rounds, several strokes ahead of Northern Illinois University (306) and St. John's University (310). The University of Illinois (277) leads the tournament at seven under par, three strokes ahead of second place Ohio State University (280). The FAU men were lead by Ben Silverman (72), who is one over par and tied for 19th. Kelly McHugh (74, T-32nd) was FAU's second scorer while Will Cottle (76, T-53rd), Justin Thompson (77, T-61st) and Sterling Searcy Jr. (79, T-71st) completed FAU's scoring five. David Ziglar (71) finished in the top 20 but is one of six Owls competing as an individual, meaning their score does not contribute to FAU's total. Several highlights of the tournament after day one include Memphis' Jordan Payne's hole-in-one on the eighth hole. Eastern Michigan's Cam Burke (64) leads the individual competition at seven under par as Illinois' Scott Langley (65) and Luke Guthrie (66) join Ohio State's Vaughn Snyder (66) in the chase pack. The second round of the tournament will tee-off tomorrow morning at 11:30 and FAU will tee-off at 12:42. Live scoring can be found at Live Results.
