Gulf Breeze, FL. - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team completed its first day of action in fifth place at the Emerald Coast Collegiate hosted by the University of West Florida at Tiger Point Golf and Country Club. Two Owls finished in the top-15 with Michael Bailey only six strokes behind the leader.

Bailey, a junior, concluded the day with a season low round of 75 to finish three-over par and in a tie for 10th place. Nicolai Syvertsen is right on his heals though. Syvertsen shot an opening round 76 and is in a tie for 13th place. Matt Anderson, a senior who finished his third straight tournament in the top five last weekend, shot a six-over par 78 and is just 9 strokes back from the leader. Senior Scott Kennedy finished with a nine-over par 81 while sophomore transfer Joel Gibbons shot an 85.

FAU shot a solid opening team round score of 310 but will have to play catch-up to leader UWF which shot a 294. University of Georgia College and State (305), Wofford College (307) and Austin Peay State University (307) round out the top five. Troy State (319) is the only other Atlantic Sun member competing in the tournament and finished a respectable 11th place out of 17 competitors.

FAU will continue its play in the Emerald Coast Collegiate on Sunday, March 2 in Gulf Breeze, FL.
