FAU Holds Steady in Second Day and Finishes Sixth at JU Invite
Feb. 17, 2009 BOCA RATON, FL- The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team wrapped up the final 18 holes of their first tournament of the spring. FAU teed-off this morning in sixth and held steady, finishing sixth. "We played better than our second round yesterday," FAU head coach Angelo Sands noted of the third and final round "but we need more consistency and balance". Lamar University won the tournament by just one stroke over the University of Kentucky. Ben Silverman started the day in seventh place but shot par for the final round and moved up to fourth. Silverman recorded 10 birdies over the course of the tournament, including four in the last round. "I have been working hard on my game over the off-season" Silverman said. "Today I just felt a calmness and confidence over me." Kelly McHugh tied for 12th and Sterling Searcy Jr.'s last round was his best round as he moved up two spots. The men's golf team will next play at their home course, Ocean Breeze Country Club in Boca Raton. The Monday, March 2 meet is a dual against the University of Dayton and is the first of four tournaments that week. "We have a lot of work to do before that spring break week" Sands said.
