Feb. 16, 2009
Competing for the first time in 2009, the Florida Atlantic University men's golf team finished day one in sixth place at the Jacksonville University Invitational. "We played ok in the morning round," FAU head coach Angelo Sands said "but we didn't play as well in the afternoon round". Nationally ranked Lamar University leads the tournament by six strokes over Stetson University. FAU's Ben Silverman and Kelly McHugh are leading the charge for the Owls, both finishing in the top 10. Silverman is in seventh place after shooting six birdies over 36 holes, ending the day at three over par (73, 74- 147). McHugh is tied for tenth at five over par (71, 78- 149). Teams wrap up the final 18 holes of the inaugural JU Invite tomorrow. Tee time is set for just after 9 a.m. "Tomorrow afternoon we will have to make up ground" Sands said.
