Men's Golf Shoots Low Round To Finish Third

Deland, FL. - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team shot a tournament low 300 round to catapult into third place on the final day of the Stetson Spring Invitational held at Victoria Springs Golf Club. The Owls, led by Matt Anderson's two-under par 70, finished the meet with a three-round score of 918 on the par 72 course, 13-strokes behind tournament winner Bethune-Cookman College.

Anderson started the day in a tie for eighth place but after shooting his third lowest score of the season was able to move himself into sole possession of second place with a three round total score of 221, good for five over par. Joel Gibbons, a sophomore transfer from Colorado State, shot a three over par 75 to finish in a tie for sixth overall. His three round total of 226 was his second lowest score of the year.
 

 

The Owls overcame a five stroke lead by in-state rival Jacksonville University to take third place overall out of the seven team tournament. Bethune-Cookman (905) took first with Troy State (908) finishing second. JU (920), Belmont University (931), Florida A&M (944) and Stetson University (969) rounded out the competition. Florida Atlantic next takes part in the USF Invitational February 21-23 in Tampa, FL.
