Men's Golf Tee Off the Spring Season

Deland, FL. - Florida Atlantic University opened up its spring season with a two-round 618 at the Stetson Golf Spring Invitational held at Victoria Hills Golf Club. Matt Anderson and Joel Gibbons finished in a tie for eighth place while Scott Kennedy was in a tie for 18th for the Owls as the team finished the day in fifth place, only 17 strokes behind the leader.

Anderson, a senior from Tallahassee, FL., shot an opening round 76 then followed that up later in the day with a round of 75 to finish seven over par 151. Gibbons was not to be outdone as the sophomore transfer fired a round of 77 and then followed that up with a team low round of 74 to finish seven over par 151. Anderson and Gibbons are both only five strokes behind the leader, Adam Barker from Belmont.
 

 

Kennedy, not to be overshadowed, shot rounds of 78 and 79 to finish 13-over par 157. Nicolai Syvertsen (163) and Anibal Ochoa (165) rounded out the Owls performance Monday afternoon.

Troy State, 601, is the leader of the pack while Bethune-Cookman College is closing in with a 604, Jacksonville University with a 613 and Belmont University with a 615.

FAU finishes up play in the Stetson Spring Invitational Tuesday, February 4, 2003.
