Owl Safety Gets NFL Camp Invite

May 2, 2008

BOCA RATON, FL - Taheem Acevedo, a four-year starting free safety for Florida Atlantic University, will participate in the Kansas City Chief's camp this weekend, May 2-4.

Acevedo joined the program in 2003 and had a break out game as a true freshman against the University of Central Florida. He played in every game that season including the team's run for a national championship and semi-final berth. The squad ended 2003 with an 11-3 record.

He was then instrumental in the team's move from Division I-AA to Division I-A that began with a upset victory over the University of Hawaii. FAU was the only team to defeat Hawaii at home that season. Acevedo suffered a broken ankle during spring drills and missed all of 2005, but that unfortunate incident proved valuable to the then junior who redshirted the season which would allow him the maturity to guide FAU through the transition into the Sun Belt Conference and ultimately the 2007 SBC Championship and New Orleans Bowl victory.

The Miami native played in 47 games during his four-year career. He tallied 176 tackles, including 47 solo. Acevedo is also credited with nine interceptions and nine broken passes.

Acevedo graduated in December of 2007.
