BOCA RATON, FL - Prominent attorney and philanthropist Willie E. Gary dropped in on Florida Atlantic University's football practice Wednesday afternoon and addressed the team of more than 100 strong.

FAU President Frank T. Brogan introduced Gary as a long-time friend and supporter of education, as well as athletics. Brogan encouraged the team to see Gary as an example of a man they could aspire to be.

Gary has previously addressed the team on a number of occasions, including the 2003 banquet when he donated $100,000 to the athletic department's scholarship fund. Gary's message on Wednesday was to believe in yourself. He rallied the team and encouraged them to take advantage of every opportunity, whether it is in the classroom, the practice field or playing the defending national champions.

Gary chronicled his life's journey for the players, which included playing college football at Shaw University. Gary, a believer that tough times never last but tough people do, grew up in a poor migrant family. He beat the odds to become a multi-millionaire and nationally renowned attorney, who has won more than 150 court cases that are valued in excess of $1 million each. Gary is also well known for giving back to the community and those less fortunate.

Gary spoke of living your life with passion and being passionate about everything you do. He left them with a message that can be applied to everyday life. "Don't look down on anyone, unless you are in the act of picking them up," said Gary.

Following Gary's address, the team posed for pictures, which included Gary wearing the helmet presented and signed by FAU Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger.
