![]() Defense Captures Scrimmage Three by Forcing Fumbles
April 23, 2005 A beautiful day, filled with a festive atmosphere ended the third scrimmage of the 2005 spring season with the defense taking the third game 26-18. It was the first spring without the inaugural class and it was a spring that showed great improvement in athleticism. "I wished we moved the ball better with more consistency, but we didn't and that is a great concern to me," said head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "Our quarterbacks couldn't bail us out today, like they did in the last scrimmage. The defense didn't use any smoke and mirrors or any thing to hold the offense down. They did it by matching up and defeating their offensive counter part. I would like to think the defense is playing better, but I'm not sure that they did."
The defense opened the day with a sack and forced a fumble at the goal line to conclude one of the longest drives of the day. In all, the defense forced three fumbles and recorded six sacks.
Offensively, the squad used three quarterbacks once again with Danny Embick calling the first series. Embick ended the day 7-for-8 with 68 yards. McKinson Souverain was 8-13 with 49 yards and one touchdown. He also added 13 yards on the ground. Sean Clayton may have had the best day of the three. Clayton was 9-for-16 with 112 yards and a score. The trio was not intercepted. The big receivers were Casey McGahee who had two receptions for 19 yards and a score. Freshman Frantz Simeon had four receptions for 39 yards, including a six yard TD and Bobby Dorsainvil who had four receptions from the backfield for 28 yards. On the ground, Charles Pierre had a big day with 11 carries for 49 yards. DiIvory Edgecomb added 46 yards on nine carries. Dorsainvil added to his offensive production with 52 yards on four carries, one culminating in a score. The Owls will close out the academic semester with individual work on their own. The squad will begin training camp in August to prepare for one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. A schedule that opens at Kansas, travels to Louisville and Minnesota, but also hosts Oklahoma State at home before a nationally televised audience. 2005 Scrimmage 3 106 plays, Final Score 26-18 Defensebr
