Offense Takes Second Scrimmage
April 16, 2005 The second scrimmage of the season ended with the offense who improved greatly from week one, came away with a 30-25 victory. "McKinson (Souverain) is starting to put it together and he gives us a special insurance policy and Danny (Embick) takes charge," said head coach Howard Schnellenberger. " Embick began the drills in a three-man rotation taking his second drive from the 40 to the one yard line before the defense was awarded a point for the goal-line top. He ended the day with 11 completions for 105 yards and one touchdown. Souverain came away with a much better passing performance completing 11-of-18 passes attempted with no interceptions and three TDs. He also gained 46 yards on the ground. Sean Clayton was the third quarterback used on Saturday. Clayton completed 7-of 13 passes for 52 yards and threw two interceptions.
Darrion Porter-Isom led the receiving core with 111 yards and two touchdown receptions. Frantz Simeon added three receptions for 40 yards and a TD reception while runningback, Bobby Dorsainvil caught the final scoring reception.
The running game again made use of 11 ball carriers. B.J. Manley led the way with 78 yards, while Cartier Barber added 60 yards and a score. The defense was not without highlights. A fumble recovery on the goal line by Christian Amaya began the day and they tallied two fumble recoveries, worked on forcing them while Kris Bartels and Rickey Bethel had interceptions. FAU will practice again on Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning a 3:30 p.m. on the Tom Oxley fields. A reception will follow each evening. The Spring Game is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday April 23, also on the Oxley Fields. The Athletics Department will also sell surplused goods and old game jerseys.
