Offense Wins Second Scrimmage Battle

April 12, 2003

Ft. Lauderdale - Florida Atlantic University's offense felt the defensive pressure to score and came away with a close 30-28 victory over the defense, in the first scrimmage played at Lockhart Stadium, in the program's history, Saturday afternoon.

The squad ran a total of 124 plays that included a halftime presentation to representatives from the Broward County School Board, Lockhart Stadium and President of the Owl Club Bob Rollins. FAU President Frank Brogan presented mini-helmets to the honored guest and welcomed the Owls into their new home.

Three quarterbacks were used. Jared Allen started the day, ran 25 plays one for a score and tallied 93 yards in the air. Newcomers Danny Embick and Antwan Blatch carried the bulk of the scrimmage with Embick leading the team into the endzone once and Blatch twice.

Saturday was also the first day for the Owls to use kickers. Mark Myers kick each extra point called upon, three and connected on 1-of-2 field goals attempts. The Rockledge high school product made good on a 13-yard attempt and just missed on a 45-yard attempt.

In all, the offense tallied 555 yards, 400 through the air. Six running backs were used in the ground game as well as Embick and a reverse by wide receiver Thomas Parker. Daveon Barron led all rushers with 46 yards.

The defense was credited with three interceptions. Lineman Arthur Cave had the first, newcomers Quincy Skinner and Christian Amaya had the final two with Amaya doing damage on return yardage.

FAU will play its final scrimmage of the season 2 p.m., Saturday on the Tom Oxley Fields and will practice at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

All of next week's events are free of charge.
