Team Prepares for First Full Scrimmage

April 8, 2005

Boca Raton, FL - Another day that began in the rain for FAU football gave way to sunshine again and painted an optimistic picture for Saturday's upcoming full scrimmage, the team's first this spring. Perhaps too optimistic, as head coach Howard Schnellenberger expressed doubts about his team's preparedness headed into Saturday.

"They're anxious, they're willing," Schnellenberger said, "but they aren't very good right now. We just have to bank on them getting better. Usually if you want to, and you work hard enough, you can get better. But we still have a lot of scrimmaging to do before we face Kansas."

Looking to prepare the players for what they'll see tomorrow, the coaches instructed the players to go "full go" in some scrimmages at the end of practice. The defense dominated for much of that session, with a small bright spot for the offense being the second team, whom freshman quarterback McKinson Souverain guided down the field for several first downs.

The Owls will hold their first full scrimmage Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., and all fans are encouraged to attend.

Notable: Seniors on both sides of the ball showed some fire in drills, which ratcheted up the intensity. Senior linebacker Shomari Earls had several big tackles and showed a lot of emotion. Junior wide receiver Tito Pollice displayed good hands and threw a great block on a reverse. Midway through practice, sophomore tailback D'Ivory Edgecomb completed a halfback pass to senior quarterback Danny Embick along the left sideline for a touchdown.

Injuries: Junior running back Antoine Whylly suffered a slight concussion and was held out afterwards.
