FAU Friday Spring Practice Report

April 4, 2008

The Florida Atlantic University football team held their last practice before their first scrimmage of the spring season on Friday. The Owls had a 90-minute session with shorts and no pads.

Most of the session was spent refining both the offense and defense. FAU went through the playbook running their formations in non-tackle drills. Rusty Smith rolled out of the pocket and found Lester Jean over the middle for a long gain. William Rose and DiIvory Edgecomb had plenty of chances to run the ball out of the shotgun against a defense that was led on the line by Jermaine Council on the first team and Jamere Johnson on the second team who were able to get to the ball carriers a few times during the workout. Jeff VanCamp also looked good, going deep and finding Wilfred Rivera for the longest pass play of the practice. On the other side of the ball, Tarvoris Hill and Andre Clark were able to take advantage of a couple of errant passes and tip drills and come away with interceptions.

The action on this day, though, wasn't relegated to the gridiron, or even to the players. A few FAU assistants held a basketball series at FAU Arena during the lunch hour. Offensive line coach Dale Williams and wide receiver coach Daryl Jackson came away with a sweep over Defensive line coaches Johnny Frost and Eli Rasheed.

FAU will hold its first scrimmage of the year on Saturday, April 5 outside the Tom Oxley Athletic Center at 2 p.m. Attendance is free and open to the public.
