First Football Practice Very Spirited
March 29, 2006 The first day of football spring practice at Florida Atlantic University was very spirited on Wednesday afternoon. The squad looked more organized and crisper in drills than a year ago in its first test. "The players came out energetic and ready to practice," said FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "A lot of big guys came into the spring in good shape, but we still have a lot of work to do. They are a little rusty." There were some familiar faces making their way back onto the field after an absence. Aaron Sanchez returned after several injuries sidelined the senior running back last season. Brandon Jackson saw his first action on the field since last August when he tore his meniscus. The sophomore offensive lineman was happy to be back in his element. "I am excited to get back because of the attitude of my teammates and I have high hopes for the season," said Jackson. "They are more confident than last year and I see that in their eyes." With 94 players dressed for practice Schnellenberger got a good look at his 2006 team. "We have a good, talented group, but we still need what good talented groups need - some work." Wednesday's practice was the first of two this week without pads. Friday's practice at 3:30 p.m. will be the second before the team dresses in pads on Saturday. The first scrimmage of the spring will take place on April 8th.
