2003 Football Schedule Features Two DI-A and Six Home Games

March 26, 2003

2003 Schedule

BOCA RATON - Florida Atlantic University will enter its third season of football in 2003 and will continue to play the most difficult schedule possible, holding to the course of NCAA Division I-A football.

The Owls will open on the road against Middle Tennessee State University, a D I-A opponent. It will mark the second time in the program's three-year history to open with a D I-A foe. FAU will then open the home schedule by playing host to Valdosta State University, a program that has been among the nation's leaders at the NCAA Division II level.

The second of four-road games scheduled for the first half of the season will feature the University of Central Florida.

Most recently, UCF was put on the map playing Miami and Nebraska in the same season, with Daunte Culpepper and being on the verge of a victory against a major opponent.

FAU will then travel to Youngstown, OH to face Youngstown State, a team that the Owls faced in 2002 and a team that is a perennial DI-AA national championship contender. FAU will then make its second trip, in as many years, to the state of Illinois facing Illinois State.

The Owls will then begin a five game home-stand that will feature three new and two familiar opponents: Southwest Texas, Northern Colorado and Siena will be faced for the first time, while FAU played Gardner-Webb in its inaugural season and Nicholls State a year ago.

The regular-season will conclude with the "Shula Bowl", this year played at Florida International against the Golden Panthers.

The home game location, times and ticket prices will be announced in the coming weeks.
