Florida Atlantic Cruises Past Edward Waters, 49-15

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Aaron Sanchez scored pair of 1-yard touchdown runs and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass, leading Florida Atlantic to defeat Edward Waters 49-15 on Saturday.

Florida Atlantic (8-3) won its second home game of the season. Edward Waters (8-3), an NAIA team, played its first game this season against a Division I team and ended a three-game winning streak.

Doug Parker scored two rushing touchdowns for the Owls and Troy Pindell returned an interception for a touchdown. Daveon Barron also ran for a touchdown.

Sanchez's first touchdown stretched the Owls' lead to 21-7. Then in the third quarter, a fumbled punt attempt by the Tigers gave Florida Atlantic the ball at the 1-yard line and Sanchez plunged into the end zone on the next play.

Sanchez's touchdown reception gave the Owls a 35-7 lead. On Edward Waters ensuing possession, Pindell's interception return off Dexter Davis made the score 42-7.

Quarterback Jared Allen was 8-for-13 for 183 yards and Danny Embick was 8-for-12 for 110 yards for Florida Atlantic. Davis was 23-for-50 for 265 yards for Edward Waters but was intercepted three times. He threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Dexter Gant and had a rushing touchdown.

The Tigers surprised Florida Atlantic by scoring on their first possession. The 84-yard, 17-play drive was capped by the touchdown pass from Davis to Gant to give Edward Waters a 7-0 lead.
