FAU's Monroe Named to Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team

Oct. 23, 2007

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University junior forward Carlos Monroe has been named to the 2007-08 men's basketball Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference First Team.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors last year, averaging nearly a double-double with 18.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. At 6'8", 245 pounds, Monroe has established himself as one of the premiere post players in the conference with a field goal percentage just under 60 percent.

"I'm very happy for Carlos," said Rex Walters, FAU men's basketball head coach. "I thought he had a good year, finishing in the top five in the league in three statistical categories. Each year he's improved, and we hope to see more improvement this year. He's worked very hard in the two years he's been here."

Monroe finished his sophomore season ranked first in Sun Belt Conference field goal percentage, second in overall rebounding, and fourth in per-game scoring.

The Owls have been picked to finish fourth in the East Division in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll. Western Kentucky is the preseason favorite to win the division, receiving all 13 first-place votes. South Alabama and Middle Tennessee State were selected second and third, respectively.

FAU opens up the 2007-08 season on the road against Rhode Island on Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
