Webb Signs Pro Contract

Oct. 11, 2006

BOCA RATON, FL -- Rodney Webb, a former Florida Atlantic University men's basketball player, has joined a professional basketball team in France.

Webb joined the Antibes of the French Pro B league and is predicted to make a major impact on his team in his inaugural season.

Through three games, he has made three starts, playing the second-most minutes on the team while averaging 11.1 points per game, third best on the squad. He's 14-of-22 from inside the arc including a pair of dunks and has drained two from beyond the arc as well for a total of 34 points.

Current FAU head coach Rex Walters was an associate head coach under Matt Doherty during Webb's senior season as an Owl.

"Rodney Webb was a player that I really enjoyed coaching last year. He is a very talented, driven, and coachable young man. I am so happy that he has the opportunity to play professionally. I wish him nothing but the best of luck and I look forward to following him during the rest of his career," Walters said.

Known for giving his team a spark with his rebounding in an Owl uniform, Webb has also managed to grab 29 rebounds, second most on the team, including a team-high 22 defensive boards and averaging just under 10 rebounds per game.

Fans can keep tabs on Webb through his team's website, www.Antibes-basket.com.

During his time at FAU, Webb earned First-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors in his senior season and was named team MVP. He ranks among FAU career leaders in points, field goal percentage, free throws made and attempted, rebounds, rebounding average per game, and double-doubles.

Webb isn't the only member of the men's basketball 2005-06 senior class to stay linked to basketball following his playing days at FAU.

Young led the Owls in three-point shooting twice in his career at FAU.

Quinton Young has signed on as an assistant coach at Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD. Young finished his career among the best three-point shooters in program history.

Lamar Moore has also caught on elsewhere, catching on with the Palm Beach Imperials of the American Basketball Association. The Imperials tip-off their season on November 21 at FAU Arena versus the Jacksonville Jam.
