July 3, 2005 BOCA RATON - Matt Doherty, Florida Atlantic University's head basketball coach, appeared on the Best Damn Sports Show Period, on location at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Wednesday, with an eye on the NBA Draft and FAU's future. Doherty, one of three current collegiate head coaches to have coached eight players, since 2001, who are currently in the NBA, reviewed the 2005 draft as he was cheered by the FAU Rugby team, who attended the afternoon event. His segment concluded with his comments about FAU and the opportunity to take the Owls' program to another level. "There is a real commitment to big time athletics at Florida Atlantic. FAU has a terrific president in Frank Brogan and outstanding leadership under athletics director Craig Angelos," said Doherty. His appearance was the final of the day that included Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins catcher Paul LoDuca. The show was hosted by Chris Rose, John Salley, Rodney Peete and Rob Dibble.
Coach Doherty will next take part in the City of Boca Raton's Fire Works Extravaganza, Monday, July 4, on the FAU Boca Raton campus.
