Walters Completes Staff with Director of Operations

June 5, 2006

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University head men's basketball coach Rex Walters has completed his staff with the hiring of Justin Bauman as Director of Basketball Operations.

"I can't tell everyone how happy I am to have Justin join us," stated Walters. "He's a highly organized, detail-oriented worker. He comes highly recommended from the staffs at the University of Kansas and the University of North Carolina."

As Director of Basketball Operations, Bauman's responsibilities will include coordinating travel, managing the program's day-to-day operations, film, scouting and recruiting, as well as camp director. He worked at Kansas from 2000 to 2006, serving as a student manager for three seasons before being promoted to head manager and student assistant coach for the next three seasons.

As head manager under Bill Self from 2003 to 2006, he assisted with on-campus recruiting, practices, scouting reports and team travel and oversaw the student support staff and all aspects of the team's equipment and apparel needs. From 2000 to 2003, Bauman assisted Roy Williams' staff with gameday and practice operations.

While at Kansas, Bauman was part of four Big XII regular-season championships, one postseason Big XII championship, two Final Fours and six-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. He also coached and directed summer camps.

"Justin has a passion for this job, he has a passion for working with kids and helping them to achieve things on and off the court," noted Walters. "He's going to be a great asset for me. He's going to move up the ranks in college basketball, because he's so organized and so enthusiastic about his job. We are very lucky to have him."

Bauman played collegiate basketball for one season at Lincoln (IL) College, where he earned honors as a scholar-athlete. A native of Canton, IL, he graduated from Kansas with a bachelor's degree in Sports Management & Fitness in 2004 and a master's degree in Sports Administration in 2006.

Walters' assistant coaches this season include Mike Balado, who was retained from the 2005-06 staff, and new hires Jeff Guin and Wendell Moore.
