Owls Welcome Transfer Sutton to Team
May 19, 2006 Boca Raton - Jimmie Sutton, who played his prep career at North Broward Prep, has elected to transfer from the University of Florida and has accepted a scholarship offer to play at Florida Atlantic University, announced Rex Walters, FAU's head coach. "It is a great day for Florida Atlantic basketball," Walters said. "Jimmy is a big time recruit and we look forward to helping him achieve his goals academically, on the basketball court and after his playing days are over. With his size, athleticism, and work ethic we really believe we have added a big piece to the puzzle for our basketball program." Sutton, a physically-imposing big man with tremendous potential as a rebounder and shot-blocker, attended the University of Florida in 2005-2006 and used the year as a medical redshirt season after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in April.
The forward/center averaged 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for North Broward Prep where he played for Danny Hanye, earning All-Broward honors in the process. Sutton completed his high school career as North Broward's all-time leader in dunks and blocked shots. He helped his team to a runner-up state finish and a 23-4 mark during his junior season when he averaged 11.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game. Sutton also played AAU basketball for the Tallahassee Wildcats and the South Florida Heat where he earned MVP honors at the Kentucky Shootout and the Westminster Tournament. He also earned All-Tournament team honors at the NBDS team camp and was an All-State football player.
