Green and Brown Receive A-Sun Honors

Feb. 26, 2002

Florida Atlantic University's Sidney Green has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach-of-the-Year, announced the conference Tuesday morning. In addition, FAU's Raheim Brown has been selected First-Team All-Conference.

Green is in his third season as head coach of the Owls and led the team to a 16-11 overall record and 13-7 in the A-Sun. The 16 wins ties a Division I FAU record for wins in a season while the 13 A-Sun wins sets a new team mark. The Owls finished third in the A-Sun behind only Georgia State and Troy State. In all, the Owls won nine more games this season than last and improved eight games in the A-Sun.

Brown, a senior forward from Orlando, leads FAU with 17.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. He is fourth in the A-Sun in scoring, second in rebounding, and second in blocks. On the year he scored at least 20 points 11 times and had 10 double-doubles. He scored a career-high 31 points against VCU on December 8 which helped him to an A-Sun Player-of-the-Week honor.

Florida Atlantic is the no. 3 seed at this week's A-Sun Tournament in Orlando. The Owls will face Jacksonville Thursday night at 8:15 in a quarterfinal match-up. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
