Feb. 16, 2004
BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Mike Bell has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Week, announced the conference office Monday afternoon. Bell is coming off of a record-breaking week while averaging 19.5 points and 16.0 rebounds in FAU's two games. On February 12 against Stetson, Bell poured in 24 points and set an FAU record with 23 rebounds. The achievement was two rebounds better than the previous mark set by Daryl Kanning on January 8, 1990. On February 14 against Jacksonville, Bell scored 15 points and had nine rebounds. On the year, Bell leads FAU with 19.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He is second in the A-Sun in scoring and first in rebounding. Bell has posted eight double-doubles and will contend for the school's all-time single-season scoring and rebounding records. The award is the second this year for Bell, who is in his first season with the Owls after transferring from Palm Beach Community College. He has scored 20 or more points in 12 games, including a career-high 35 points on January 19 against Lipscomb. Florida Atlantic returns to action Thursday night at Georgia State.
