Men's Hoops Tries to Extend Home Winning Streak

Jan. 29, 2008

BOCA RATON, FL - Carlos Monroe will be honored at a pregame ceremony on Saturday. Monroe became the sixth player in FAU history to score 1,000 career point in FAU 70-68 win over Denver. The Owls will be at home for both of this week's games, as they host New Orleans on Wednesday night before facing Savannah State on Saturday.

The Owls (7-14, 3-7) have won three consecutive home games and five of their last six. FAU's only home loss in that time came to East division-leading South Alabama.

Wednesday, head coach Rex Walters' squad will face the Privateers of New Orleans (14-7, 4-5) and their star player, Bo McCallebb. McCallebb was named Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year and has lived up to the hype, leading the conference in scoring at 22.3 points a game. He is also tops in the Sun Belt in steals at 2.43 a contest. Although the Owls won both of last season's meeting, McCallebb made life difficult, averaging 29 points in the two games.

Savannah State will visit the Burrow on Saturday night. The Tigers (10-14) are coached by former Georgetown great Horace Broadnax, who helped the Hoyas to two Final Fours and a national championship as a player. The Tigers have eight players averaging at least four points a game.

Both games start at 7 p.m. and live stats will be available via GameTracker at fausports.com. Live audio for both games can be found on WMEN-640AM or by logging on to fausports.com.
