Men's Basketball Stumbles at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, NC - Adam Fellers scored a season-high 33 points to lead Campbell University to a 92-87 victory over Florida Atlantic University Thursday night in Buies Creek, NC. The loss drops FAU to 13-9 on the year and 10-5 in the Atlantic Sun Conference while Campbell improves to 7-16 and 5-11, respectively. Daryl Dingle led six FAU players in double figures with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

FAU led early on by a 19-13 score before Campbell closed the first half outscoring FAU 37-21 to lead 50-40 at the break. Fellers scored 15 points in the first half with 5-of-5 shooting and 3-of-3 accuracy from beyond the arc. Fellers finished 11-of-12 from the field with seven treys in eight tries.

The Camels stormed out with the first 10 points of the second on their way to a 64-42 lead with 14:40 remaining before the Owls mounted a furious rally. In the next 5:08, FAU went on a 23-7 run to pull to within 71-65 with 9:32 left. The Camels would edge out to a 13-point lead with five minutes remaining before the Owls again rallied. A lay-up by Dingle with 1:09 left pulled the Owls to within 84-80. A driving lay-up by John Smart with 18 seconds left cut the deficit to 89-87. That was as close as FAU would get as the Camels scored three more points from the line.
 

 

Jeff Cowans finished with 13 points while Nick Neumann and Earnest Crumbley each added 11. Raheim Brown and Andre Garner scored 10. Both Crumbley and Cowans connected for three treys on the night. Dingle had his second double-double of the season.

Campbell shot 59 percent for the game including 74 percent in the first half. FAU finished at 44 percent.

The loss drops FAU out of a first-place tie with Troy State in the A-Sun. TSU did not play on Thursday.

FAU next plays at Georgia State Saturday at 6:00pm.
