Second-Half Surge Pulls Owls Past Bulldogs, 77-63

Feb. 4, 2006

Final Stats

BOCA RATON, FL -- An offensive explosion spurred by a 24-4 second-half run led the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team past Atlantic Sun rival Gardner-Webb, 77-63 at FAU Arena on Saturday.

The game was nip and tuck early on, but at the 11:53 mark of the second-half the FAU offense took over. Kevin Green hit a jumper that kicked off the offensive surge, largely created by FAU's reserve corps (31 bench points).

The Owls shot 50% for the game, including a sparkling 50% from down-town.

Rodney Webb converted his first eight shot attempts and finished with his eighth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds and Quinton Young had one of his season-best performances, converting three triple-tries in four attempts on 5-of-7 shooting for 13 points. 10 of the 12 Owls scored in the contest.

The Bulldogs' season-leading scorer Simon Conn, a 6-9 senior, fouled out with just nine points on 4-of-9 shooting. Tim Jennings led the way for GWU on Saturday with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. T.J. McCullough chipped in 14.

The Owls (11-10, 10-4 A-Sun) will travel to Mercer to face the Bears on Feb. 7 for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Four of FAU's final six regular-season contests are on the road.

With the win, the Owls now sit in second-place, tied with Belmont and ETSU.
