Owls Defeated by Golden Knights

BOCA RATON, FL -- UCF used a strong defensive effort, and Dexter Lyons scored a game-high 25 points as the Golden Knights won their 10th straight game in a 70-52 victory over Florida Atlantic University Wednesday night in Boca Raton. The Owls were led by Mike Bell's 13 points but were held to 30 points below their season average.

UCF (12-2, 7-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) never trailed as it opened the game with a 10-2 lead at the 17:11 mark of the first half. At the same time, the Golden Knights' defense held FAU to 28 percent shooting in the first frame. UCF led 33-19 at the half.

In the second half, the Golden Knights continued to dominate as they built as much as a 25-point lead, at 51-26, with 11:58 remaining. The Owls could only cut the margin as close as 18 points the rest of the way.

Earnest Crumbley scored all 12 of his points in the second half as FAU was held to its second lowest output of the season. FAU (7-7, 4-3 A-Sun) was held to 37 percent shooting for the game while UCF went 44 percent. UCF outrebounded the Owls 38-28. Each team committed 13 turnovers.

Lyons was 5-for-6 from beyond the arc while teammate Roberto Morentin scored 17.

Florida Atlantic next faces Belmont University January 17 at FAU Gymnasium.
