Box Score

BOCA RATON, FL - A career night from Carlos Monroe helped the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team defeat the Troy Trojans 93-88.

Monroe had 24 points and a career high 16 rebounds on the night. The Owls (5-12, 1-5 Sun Belt) got out to a quick start and took a 14-8 lead on a Carlos Monroe lay-up with 15:25 in the first half. A 7-0 Owl run late in the first half pushed the lead to 10 at 32-22. Troy responded with a 16-4 spurt of its own to take a 38-36 lead. The two teams headed to the break tied at 41.

FAU started the second half on a 7-2 break to take a 48-43 advantage. The Trojans did not retreat and was able to regain a 54-51 lead. A Jeff Parmer three point play tied the game at 54. Two straight Justin Jonus jumpers gave Troy a four point lead. That is when Monroe stepped up to the challenge. The Preseason All-Sun Belt First Teamer scored seven of FAU's next nine point to help the Owls retake the lead, 63-61. The two teams traded baskets and momentum over the next several minutes.

An O'Darien Bassett three-pointer made the score 81-79 with 1:40 left when Monroe again answered the call. He scored four of the next five Owl points during a game-clinching run to help push the lead to 86-79.

The Owls travel to Western Kentucky on Saturday to take on the Hilltoppers. Live audio will be available on WMEN-640AM and fausports.com.
