Florida Atlantic University men's basketball coach Mike Jarvis initiated his coaching staff hires by announcing Ocala native Matt McCall as an assistant coach in July of 2008.

University of Florida's Director of Basketball Operations since 2004 under Gators' head coach Billy Donovan, McCall contributed to two national championships, three straight SEC tournament titles and an SEC championship during a seven-year tenure in Gainesville.

"I feel extremely honored and excited with the opportunity Coach Jarvis has provided me at Florida Atlantic," said McCall. "To be able to work for and coach along-side someone who has such an amazing coaching background is truly a blessing. I am thrilled to be a part of building this program and establishing the Owls as a dominant force in the Sun Belt Conference."

McCall was an all-area basketball player at Belleview High School in the Ocala area before choosing the student life at UF over playing opportunities at smaller schools. McCall became the Gators' team manager within a year of enrolling at UF, and quickly worked his way up to head manager, then graduate assistant coach after earning a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science in 2004. He accepted Florida's Director of Basketball Operations position after earning a master's degree in secondary education from UF in May of 2006.

"Matt McCall is a tireless worker and a first-class person and I think Coach Jarvis has made a tremendous hire," Donovan said about McCall's move to Boca Raton. "I've always viewed Matt as one of the bright young minds, and FAU has brought in someone who will represent its program with character and class, who knows the state of Florida, and will bring the energy and passion necessary to be successful in his new role."

McCall is the son of Beth McCall and former Gator linebacker Wayne McCall (1965-67), now a prominent Ocala attorney.
