FAU to Name Head Baseball Coach
June 30, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Athletic Director Craig Angelos will introduce the baseball program's new head coach at a press conference scheduled for 10 a.m., on Tuesday, July 1, in the Tom Oxley Center's Founders' Lounge, located on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The new head coach will replace Kevin Cooney, who announced his retirement April 24, effective August 1. The 28-year old program previously has been under the direction of two head coaches. Steve Traylor established the program and compiled a 268-107-2 record in seven seasons, 1981-1987. Cooney served as the program's leader for the next 21 years, 1988-2008, and has tallied a 748-480-5 record while wearing FAU colors. In total, FAU's baseball program has produced 18 All-Americans, and 88 have continued playing baseball at a professional level. A streaming video of the press conference will be available following the event at www.fausports.com.
