Brown's Three Homers Leads Bees
June 26, 2005 MLB.com Rusty Brown slammed three home runs and collected six RBIs on Sunday, powering Burlington to a 10-1 win over Beloit at Community Field. Brown capped a five-run first inning with a three-run blast to left field off starter Anthony Swarzak (7-4). The 23-year-old added a two-out solo shot in the third and a two-run round-tripper, his seventh, in the seventh. Brown ended the day 4-for-4 with three runs scored and leads Burlington with 34 RBIs. He was the first Bee since 1999 to hit multiple homers in a game. As an early birthday present, Burlington starter Kyle Crist (5-1) recorded the win after holding the Snappers to one run on two hits, while walking three and fanning one over five frames. He will be 22 on Monday. Beloit's lone run came in the second when Paul Rutgers was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Bees' other runs came on a double by Damaso Espino in the first and RBI singles by Irving Falu and Pete Maestrales in the fourth. Falu went 3-for-4 and has hit in 14 consecutive games. The nine-run lead was Burlington's largest this season. Sunday's game snapped Beloit's three-game winning streak and Burlington's three-game skid. -- Marissa Rega/MLB.com
