McNab Recognized by American Baseball Coaches Association

June 26, 2002

Florida Atlantic University's closer, Tim McNab was named to the Atlantic Regional Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association. McNab, who posted 12 saves during the 2002 season, earned Second Team honors in his senior season at FAU. This is the first time since 1999 that a player has been recognized on the ABCA team.

McNab received recognition on the Atlantic Sun First Team after leading the conference in saves. His 12 saves during the regular season also placed him eighth in the nation while he held a 6.5 strikeout to walk ratio.

The Cooper City native was instrumental in Florida Atlantic's run in the NCAA Regionals as he received his third win of the season in a 6-5 victory over Alabama in the championship game. He ended his career at FAU and was drafted in the 22nd round of the major league draft by the Mets.

Two freshmen also picked up national honors, Jeff Fiorentino and Derek Hutton were named to the Louisville Slugger All-American Freshman Honorable Mention team. The two helped lead FAU to a final season ranking of 15th by Collegiate Baseball.

With a regional win the team was propelled into the 15th spot behind only one other Florida school, No. 9 Florida State. The ranking was FAU's highest of the season.

FAU finished the season with a 46-21 record and earned their first NCAA Regional Championship victory in the program's 21-year history.
