Three Baseball Players Placed on Atlantic Region Team
June 23, 2003 Randy Beam continues to accumulate accolades as a starting pitcher for Florida Atlantic University, his latest is being named to the First Team All-Region Team. First Baseman Rusty Brown and outfielder Jeff Fiorentino both picked up second team honors. The trio was named First Team All-Conference earlier this season. After being named to four All-America teams this season, Sarasota native Randy Beam was placed on the first team with Vern Sterry of North Carolina State and Trent Peterson from Florida State. Beam finished fifth in the nation with a 13-2 record and a 2.39 ERA to lead FAU. He will return for his senior season next year to anchor a young staff. A former standout in North Fort Myers, Rusty Brown was a second team pick at first base. Brown tallied a team-high 66 RBI and was second with 11 home runs and a .368 average. Brown will return for his senior season and is currently ranked ninth in career home runs at FAU. Jeff Fiorentino (Hollywood, FL) led the team with a .382 batting average and 15 homeruns. Fiorentino will be a junior next season on a team that will return six position players. The two-time Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Week completed the year with a .486 on-base percentage. FAU's season featured its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the past five years, a 47-16 record and the program's first A-Sun Title.
