Two Baseball Players Named to the Regional Team
June 2, 2003 Two Florida Atlantic University players were named to the Coral Gables Regional baseball team on Sunday after the conclusion of the four-team double-elimination tournament. Randy Beam and Derek Hutton earned honors after having an outstanding tournament. Beam, a junior pitcher from Sarasota, FL, threw a complete game against Miami on Saturday. The Second-Team All-American took the loss despite only allowing one run on five hits. He struck out five and did not allow a walk. The FAU offense could not provide runs as Miami's pitcher, J.D. Cockroft pitched a one-hitter and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Regional. Second baseman Derek Hutton picked up honors after he hit two home runs and seven RBIs in three games. The sophomore from Palm Beach Gardens finished with an .846 slugging percentage.
FAU concluded its season with a 47-16 record and is currently ranked 23rd by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball.
