Randy Beam Named Third Team All-America
May 30, 2003 Florida Atlantic University's starting pitcher, Randy Beam, was named Third Team All-America by Louisville Slugger on Friday. The junior from Sarasota, FL is third in the country in victories with a 13-1 record. Beam, a 6'3" left-handed pitcher, earned his only loss of the season on February 19 against then ranked no. 22 Florida International. Since that time, Beam has won 10 consecutive games and now leads the team with a 2.50 ERA. He is holding opponents to a dismal .204 batting average by striking out 78 and only allowing 69 hits in 93 2/3 innings. The First Team All-Conference selection averages 7.5 strikeouts per game and holds a 4.6 strikeout/walk ratio.
In Saturday's NCAA Regional contest in Coral Gables, FL, Beam will make his 16th start of the season will try to guide FAU to a victory and onto the Championship game on Sunday.
